Order of 1 October 2004 amending the Order of 23 November 1987 on ship safety

  • Replacement of Division 224, by the new Schedule
  • Limit to 24 m (instead of 25)
  • Entry into force on 1 January 2005

 

Categories

Coastal: less than 6 miles from a shelter.
Ocean: more than 6 miles from a shelter (Concept of shelter unchanged).
There is no longer any concordance between the EC design categories, and the navigation categories.
The boater no longer chooses a category, but must be in possession of the mandatory equipment following the navigation.

Weapons equipment

1 – All distances away from a shelter

  • National flag
  • Lifting system of a person fallen overboard
  • 3 x hand held red flares
  • 1 rigid bucket
  • Fire extinguisher (number to be appraised)
  • Anchorage (appreciation)
  • Probe (appreciation)
  • Nautical Instructions

 

2 – Coastal navigation ≤ 6miles from a shelter

  • Waistcoat (50N) : buoyancy aid + floating clothing
  • 1 floating or inflatable appendix
  • Pump

 

3 – Offshore Navigation> 6 miles from a shelter

  • Waistcoat (100 N) minimum
  • Lifebuoy + fire + harness
  • Integrated harness
  • 3 parachute rockets + 2 smoke
  • 1 CI survival liferaft II or V (Optional / hom.CE | Lifetime 15 years, revision every 3 years)
  • The raft is no longer “attached” to a ship (possibility of leasing or loan)
  • If unsinkable: no change and dispatch from the liferaft without limit of distance
  • Inflatable inflatable (by gas) auto or manual + tent (does not exist on the market for now)
  • Medical equipment + survival cover
  • Standard Pump
  • Navigation = 1 system to make the point + 1 compass compliant
  • Weather Reception (fax – VHF)
  • 1 logbook
